New Hanover Township Historical Society's MAY PROGRAM

“A Fun Day’s Outing at the Park”

Our May program will feature an illustrated presentation by Aaron Heckler on four historic Lehigh Valley amusements parks. Mr. Heckler will take attendees on a visual tour of four well known amusement parks operating in the early 1900s. Each accessible via a pleasant trolley ride, these parks provided an oasis for city dwellers and other residents looking for a respite from the summer’s heat, with a bit of a thrill thrown in for good measure.

Learn how these recreational areas developed, which features they offered patrons, and what has happened to the sites over time. Two of the parks are still in operation seasonally; take a personal guess which ones they may be and come to the program to see if you are correct.

Who: Aaron Heckler, well known throughout the Upper Perkiomen Valley as a Bookman and collector/retailer of old picture postcards

When: Wednesday, May 27, 2026 @ 7:00 P.M.

Where: Swamp Creek Schoolhouse, adjacent to Swamp Creek Park, 3179 Reifsnyder Road, Gilbertsville, PA, 19525

At the conclusion of the program light refreshments will be served during a period of conviviality and a chance to converse with Mr. Heckler. As always, the public is invited and there is no charge for admission.
